King’s Community Church is one of many hundreds of new churches that have sprung up in the UK in recent decades. There are literally tens of thousand of such new churches worldwide today. We would describe ourselves as a Bible-believing charismatic church, born out of a conviction that God is restoring His church to its original New Testament life and vitality, equipped to turn people back to God through the power of the gospel.
We are not affiliated to any traditional denomination but we are in membership with the Evangelical Alliance, an organisation which links together a broad spectrum of evangelical churches and societies across the nation. This is most obviously expressed in our involvement with the local Southampton Evangelical Alliance.
The most important association we have as a church is with newfrontiers, an apostolically-led family of over 300 churches worldwide headed up by Terry Virgo. We share the same basic beliefs, values and goals, working together to reach our whole nation with the gospel and to play our part in fulfilling the Great Commission.
King’s Community Church is led by a team of elders who are responsible for overall leadership of the church life and ministry. The role of the elders is primarily spiritual, their main functions being:
-
to lead the people of God by setting an example of faith and Godliness
-
to minister to the Lord in prayer and teach the Word of God
-
to pastor and care for the people of God
-
to pray for the sick
-
to provide and oversee the necessary activities that will advance the Kingdom of God in our area and proceed in a manner which exemplifies the church's values
There are many others involved in the leadership and administration of the church handling various responsibilities or leading particular groups in the church - deacons, several employed staff and a large number of volunteers. We encourage each person to be involved in the work of the church, as we believe everyone has a part to play.
The church is also a registered charity (no. 293592).
